The Facts

In 2020 there were 55 women in Australia allegedly killed by a male intimate partner. These deaths are the tip of the iceberg of domestic and family violence in Australia.

1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will experience physical violence by their intimate partner at some point during their lifetimes.

Around 41% of people seeking help from specialist homelessness services in 2019-20 were experiencing domestic and family violence. Of the people who asked for help from specialist homelessness services due to domestic and family violence-related issues, more than three out of four or 79% were female

TALK TO WOMEN

BE AWARE OF YOUR LANGUAGE

BE AWARE OF YOUR LANGUAGE

Listen to women for their insights and opinions. Know their circumstances to protect them from experiencing it again.

BE AWARE OF YOUR LANGUAGE

BE AWARE OF YOUR LANGUAGE

BE AWARE OF YOUR LANGUAGE

Don't say anything you wouldn't say to your mother. Using language that dehumanises and degrades a woman is inappropriate and highly hurtful.

SEE WOMEN AS EQUALS

BE AWARE OF YOUR LANGUAGE

SEE WOMEN AS EQUALS

Women are humans who are just as valuable as men. Treat women the way you'd treat yourself.

BE AN ACTIVE BYSTANDER

BE AN ACTIVE BYSTANDER

BE AN ACTIVE BYSTANDER

Instead of being an idle passerby when something inappropriate happens, interfere with the situation and be there for the woman.

UNDERSTAND THE ISSUE

BE AN ACTIVE BYSTANDER

BE AN ACTIVE BYSTANDER

The inequality between the two genders is a systematic problem that is deeply entrenched in our society. Know what you are dealing with to generate the right response.

REFLECT

REFLECT

Look at your own actions and question them. Inquire yourself: Was that an appropriate thing to say to a woman? Did my action make her uncomfortable? Always be alert of your impact.
